What Does A
Guidance Counselor Do?
Assists students with academic, career and
personal/social concerns and questions:
- Follows the National Standards (ASCA) Guidance Curriculum
- Works with small groups of students who share similar problems or concerns
- Gains understanding through classroom observations and participation
- Helps identify the needs of students
- Assists students with the transition to middle school, high school and college/career
- Promotes positive attitudes among students
- Aids teachers and parents in helping students
- Assists in areas of testing: OGT, PSAT, PLAN, ACT, SAT
- Coordinates Post Secondary Education Options (PSEO)
- Teaches high school class: Career Planning
- Coordinates efforts with other school specialists and outside resources
- MEETS WITH STUDENTS!
