"What if my student has special needs or is academically gifted?"

Search

Lake Center’s unique atmosphere and welcoming student body embraces students within a wide-range of academic abilities. We offer numerous special needs and gifted programs to assist students in reaching their highest level of potential.

SEARCH is the name given to the enrichment program at LCCS and stands for Seeking Excellence And Reaching Challenging Heights. Its mission is to meet the needs of students (grades 2-6) who have been identified through test scores and/or teacher recommendations as being gifted or highly capable.

Search, etc.

Eligible students participate in a small group pullout program that meets for approximately two class periods per week. The activities of the pullout program are designed to stimulate creativity and imagination; to develop skills in independent work, problem solving, and critical thinking; to understand their own unique God given strengths and weaknesses; and to provide opportunities to interact with highly capable peers.

Students in grades seven through eleven are in SEARCH, Etc. (Extending The Challenge). Students do pre-trip research, go on daylong fieldtrips, participate in post-trip discussions, and create a product to share their knowledge.

Search & Teach

The purpose of the SEARCH & TEACH program is to prevent learning failure and its emotional consequences through early identification, clinical diagnosis, and educational therapy. SEARCH is an evaluation instrument designed to assess the skills of kindergarten and first grade students.

Students who show significant weaknesses through SEARCH can be enrolled in TEACH. The TEACH part of the program uses multi-sensory stimulation and is designed to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in reading, writing, and pronunciation.

Autism Scholarship Program

Lake Center has been approved as an authorized provider of the Autism Scholarship through the Ohio Department of Education.
